Steam Train - J.M.W. Turner

The story being told in this piece is the story of industrial revolution. The revolution steaming through the old world of beauty and replacing it with harsh metal.

I believe the story line is engaging and that it involves the viewer that Turner is witnessing. He is capturing the essence of the industrial advances happening around him.

This painting has very strong formal elements such as frame, composition, and style. The Diagonal composition adds to the dynamic subject matter. The use of frame is seen with the rail road extending off the frame seeming to go on forever. I feel this piece reads strong and the painterly style makes for an innovative approach.
