Figurative Painting (Homework #3)- Amy Wynia

Rose Meditative, Salvador Dalí, 1958, Oil on canvas,  36 cm x 28 cm

The narrative of this particular painting suggests contemplative meditation and also the idea of a couple's love and passion in a relationship.  The audience that this piece is supposed to intrigue is directed more towards females exploring their sexuality, sexual organs, and menstruation.  This is a very engaging piece that definitely makes one question as to why the rose is floating in midair and the beauty seen in it.  The narrative could be stronger if maybe the rose had blood or some sort of indication that signifies to the viewer that it's about a women's menstruation cycle and her organs.  The contrast of the red rose against the blue sky complements well together and really makes the composition of this piece very strong by really signifying the intensity of a couples passion for one another.  The only thing that could possibly be changed is by creating a larger intensity of light upon the rose to give it more highlights.
