  1. I really enjoy the palate you chose to work with, as the figure really pulls away from the background with the contrasting use of yellows and blues. I think the way you rendered Cliff's face looks fantastic. The body overall looks pretty good, with only a few errors in proportions, especially in looking at the size of the hand to the head. There are only a few things I wish were changed. One being the grey stripe below his face, which draws my eye away from the figure. The other being the lack of detail in the blanket. I feel that if it felt more like fabric, it would be more appealing to look at. I think the piece as a whole looks great. You have improved since the first project!

  2. I like how the couch is full of cool tones and the body is very warm. The light source is the most readable in the face. I feel as if this piece depicts a snapshot in time that is full of brilliant colors.

  3. I love your style. The strong contrast in the cool background and warm body is so interesting. The background feels cold and icey and the figurer looks so warm. The strongest point is definitely the face, you've created such strong highglights on this area of the body. Awesome work!

  4. I know this is going to sound weird but this feels like looking at an image in infrared in a way. The body feels hot to me, because it's this bright almost glowing warm yellows and oranges. You see the heat of the body. But the background and couch are very cold in contrast. I really like the way this turned out, it doesn't have a ton of details, particularly in the couch and background, but I feel like it doesn't need them and works fine the way it is now. I feel like you could have worked a bit more on the left hand, it sort of reads as a stump compared to bend fingers. And the right leg feels a bit skinny but overall I think the figure is really well done.

  5. I really love your use of really warm colors (red/yellow/orange) in the figure and the very cool colors (blues) set in everything else around him to contrast against him. He seems very proportional except maybe for his right leg may be a bit small. I really love how you blend colors from one to another creating a very smooth effect. The face is especially very well rendered. My suggestion for improvements may be to add more values into the blanket and pillow to bring it out more and create it to not be so flat. Also, the right hand seems kind of odd, so maybe just by bending the fingers a little bit or elongating them so they don’t look cut off. I keep seeing such improvement of your work from piece to piece, it’s really great to watch.

  6. The colors of this piece really make it stand out from the other interpretations of this model. The yellow flesh tone presents a warm, cozy existence within a seemingly cool atmosphere - yet the warmth created by the figure infuses its surroundings and somehow even the blue beneath him is welcoming. I like the focus boldly drawn to the figure by such contrast, leaving no room to wonder where the viewer should be drawn. Though it does make me wonder what the source of such light and warmth is... I would like to see a bit more detail on the couch, as we discussed in class, if you were to ever add to/continue this piece.

  7. The basic colors you have chosen are really unique, and I think you have made them work really well to help the figure stand out a lot. I think the biggest issue I find is that the figure and couch/blanket do not interact chromatically, so the figure does not sit in the couch very well. Other than that I think your proportions are overall pretty good, a little large on the left leg maybe and the right hand needs some work. Otherwise a solid painting.

  8. I love this painting, it feels like a sculpture in a way. The face and body seem well proportioned to one another. I especially love how you painted the face. I think your use of bright yellows against the warm reds make this painting feel relaxed.

  9. I really enjoyed (like many other people) the seemingly limited color palette in this piece. The orange hues really popped because of the blue. I think adding purple to the blue would contrast the yellow, but I'm glad you didn't. It might have been too much for the eye to handle.

  10. Your piece became as much a color study as a figure study. You did an excellent job of balancing the radiating warmth of the figure with the icy cool sin the couch and the background without simply dumping complimentary colors around the figure. Part of this, i think, may be due to the fact that you have just a little bit of the gold from the figure splashed across the top of the couch. It is an incredible visual effect, and is very impressive. In general, you did a good job with lighting and proportions. The figure's left hand and face are beautifully carved out and dramatic, but they stick out a bit from his torso and right leg, which are a little flatter. This could be due to the fact that the lighting was different on different days. A few more points of deeper darks and reflectivity would aid the viewer's sense of three dimensional space in these places. though i think the couch and background are handled quite well with respect to the figure in terms of mark making and texture, the gray stripe to the left of the figure's head is a bit too uniform. The overall tone of the stripe is good , as it helps definition, but i think giving it a little bit of shading and/or texture would bring it to the wonderful level of the rest of the piece. great job!
