  1. I really like the way you have added subtleties of yellow and blue in various places on the figure. The skin tone is nice. I enjoy looking at the right arm because of the shadows around it and just because the way you used color. The head looks a little small, like you tried to make it fit in the frame, but I think it would have been interesting if half of/none of his face was showing. It's not so visible on the small picture, but the texture you added on the couch is a nice touch. The way you used the paint is interesting, it looks like watercolor to me, awesome!

  2. im not sure what medium this piece is painted with but it feels like water color. the style definitely works for me. i really like the shadow under the right arm. The balance of warm to cool is a bit hard to read but definitely suggests what is there.

  3. I remember seeing this piece progress and I was so stoked on how it turned out. What I think is really super awesome here is the yellows and blues in his flesh. All the colour in this piece balance out the brown of the couch very well, though the one tiny spot of blue in the corner keeps drawing my eye. I think having darkened that specific value would help call attention to your figure. Also heads are so hard to get in proportion from that cut off! I had that same problem working on mine. If you decide to ever touch this piece again, I would suggest try to enlarge his head somehow. (I imagine you'll have to use someone else's face)

  4. The photo really doesn't do it justice, especially with the areas of opaque skin with blues and reds underneath. As Cheyne and Amanda mentioned, it feels almost like you painted it with watercolors because of that effect. You did a great job with the skin tones and creating under tones, it adds a life life quality to it. The proportions feel off, the head feels too small for the body overall, but then the right legs feels too skinny. I do wish you had some darker shadows, most of your shadows seem to be in the same range, having darker ones would add even more depth.

  5. I really love your style and how you’re able to make everything so smooth looking. I’ve noticed you really like to use more so cool coolers than warm which is always a neat effect you use. In this painting in particular appears to look like watercolor. The decision to frame/crop it is very well executed. I really like the subtleties especially how you rendered the right arm creating a nice flesh tone. There seems to be a large contrast with your blues and yellows but, I love that effect in your work. Only suggestion I think is if you were able to make his head a little bigger then it is to even its self out with the rest of his body.

  6. This painting has a watercolor-esque feel to it with the translucency of the flesh.
I still see some strong outlining on this figure, which makes it difficult to believe. I think your colors are great, the only suggestion would be to have more warm tones, especially in the torso, because the warmest tone I really see is the yellow which remains fairly cool.
You have a very interesting composition with the cropping of the head. Overall I enjoy looking at the image, but it just feels a little too cramped.

  8. Great job capturing the angle of that left hand! I found that part in my painting to be overwhelming! I also love the small creases and shadow on the right side of the neck. The darker warmer tones you used on the right thigh and right side of the neck give your figure more depth. If I had to chose something to add I would maybe add more of those colors to center of his chest and the fold in the left arm. I Love this painting! I especially love the expression on his face.

  9. This piece is beautiful and the flesh tones are really taken into careful consideration as the warms and cools are balanced and placed very subtle. I think the composition is strong as it goes beyond the canvas and leaves the viewers imagination to test. I feel like the head and shoulder area seems a bit smooshed and forced in making him look a bit uncomfortable, but still the color and proportions of the figure are strong enough that it really doesn't bother me much.

  11. You did a great job on this painting! I think the left thigh is well done and looks volumetric. You should apply that to all the elements of your painting to make it look more 3D. The colors in the skin tone seems to be well balanced aside from splotch of yellow on his left side. I just now noticed how well you captured his expression! He definitely looks like Cliff.

  12. As many others have said, your painting does have a kind of watercolor feel to it, not only because of the translucent, overlaid qualities of the colors, but the colors themselves. A lot of the colors look like colors that are only possible to make with watercolor, yet you did a good job of building up surface underneath them that the painting still reads like it is in oil. I don't know if there is anything i would do to change this piece. Like James said, there are a couple places (mostly the right hand) that are contoured, and there are some proportional oddities, but these ultimately make everything feel more like a painting. You did a fantastic job of capturing subtle details in places like the left hand and neck, which really show the viewer that you were paying close attention to a real model.

  13. The face, hands, and legs are all rendered in a very stylized way that you are very good at. The torso is a little flat because of a lack of cools and warms that could be there. the couch looks great!

  14. This figure seems very gaunt and disfigured, but in the best way. It reminds me of something Egon Schiele would paint. something around that style. you do wonderfully with the blues and yellows, and I would enjoy seeing how your style develops over time (that is, if you decide to pursue painting with oils).
