  1. nice colorful skin tone that provides warmth and life to the figure. also good execution of both the cloth and couch , one thing it might have revised would be the composition and shown more of the body.

  2. I like the palate of the skin tones that make the figure look almost neon against the background. The rendering of the cloth and the couch are very nice, but the blanket falls flat in a few areas. I am in love with the background color you have created.

  3. Nice! This painting is so smooth that I was actually taken aback when I clicked on this. I am loving the minty green background and the dark navy contrast. Having your figure this warm orange and pink really helps make him pop out. Some parts of this piece feel a little overworked, his left arm for example, and the leftmost part of the blue blanket. His face is really nicely constructed, and I especially enjoy the light that's forming his cheek and his hair. I still stand by my in-class comment, however, that the halo formed behind him is out of place. Halos, unless strictly intentional, tend to be a common mistake, and that brings down the craftsmanship of a piece. With everything so smoothly painted, I'd hate to see the halo bring this painting down.

  4. The thing i like about this piece is that the warms are very warm and the cools are very cool. This presents a very yin yang compliment system. The back ground goes well with the blue couch. It would go a better if the couch wasn't as dark.

  5. The detail in the left had is amazing. the skin looks so realistic especially around the knuckles. I love the use of peachy reds around the small highlights on his left knuckles, and what I think is an opaque blue or purple that you used above his left thumb. Maybe taking away some of those nice opaque highlights in the right hand and the bright blue on the left thigh would balance out the figure and keep him from looking neon. I enjoy the background and couch, I think the blues work well with the warm figure.

  6. I really love the dreamlike and calm feel to this image. The vibrant blues and greens as well as the peaceful expression add to this calm. He seems like he is just happily resting. The pops of warmer colors, like the orange on her elbow, really work well against the greens and blues, they compliment well. Parts of the pillows and blanket do fall a bit flat however. They feel odd against the figure who is well rounded. I think you proportions are also very nice.

  7. The use of palate and blending is great. I’ve always had a hard time making it look very blended and smooth and being able to show the value tones at the same time, but I think you executed that very well. He appears to be very warm as everything around him is so cool which really makes him pop out at you. Only suggestion I see if maybe blending a little into his right hand because it seems like an abrupt stop between the wrist and hand. I also really love the rendering of the pillows and blankets. The color shifts in his right arm of reds and blues is quite beautiful.

  8. This painting is so lush! I love how rich your colors are and the thick application of paint. You have a mastery of painting smooth skin and blending your values. The only suggestion I have is to work on the right hand. The right hand looks a little too blue. You might want to think about changing the background color. I think neutral warm color might really make your colors synchronize beautifully.

  9. Your painting is incredibly relaxing. Often, as students in a class with a bunch of other students all painting from the same model, it is difficult to integrate our individual idea of what we want the narrative of a painting to be with the positioning of the model, which is shared by everyone. Despite this, you did a fantastic job of creating such an aesthetic of relaxation and calm through your choice of color and composition. Your cool blues and greens really make the warm colored model pop, and the airbrushed smooth technique and the hair (especially the hair, i think you handled that really well) add to the paintings three-dimensionality. maybe smooth out the right hand, since its so foregrounded, and maybe add some darks to the pillows around the figure's head, but otherwise I think its great!

  10. Your figure holds a lot of light, but it does it in a way that it seems to radiate that light rather than reflect it.
I think that the figure is strong overall. Your proportions look accurate. The only thing I would say is that some parts appear almost too smooth. Your blending is wonderful though, and it gives a very nice sense of flesh when coupled with your use of colors (warm and cool in both light and shadow)

  11. Your figure glows with such strongness that he almost becomes surreal. He is blended beautifully and I think that flesh tones are represented really well. I think playing with othet background colors and reflective light would give your figire more preaense and possibly not confluct as much, though I do love the deep blue that borders the bottom. Perhaps changing the blanket color, maybe refld or more maroon? Just a suggestion. Great work!

  12. Can't stress how cool this painting is. You have a fantastic way of blending that isnt necessarily realistic, but has a power to it, much like Rousseau's Sleeping Gypsy. this ethereal lighting is very effective in creating a mood, and compliments the style you seem to have in creating extremely handsome figures. you knew how to handle the couch and background, and the contrast of warm and cool colors is hardly uncomfortable.

  13. i love the face hair and hands in this painting! they all add a lot to your painting, but i think the torso could have had more work done on it with more extreme cool tones.
