Alex Ross 'Aquaman Shrine Staff', 2003, 22" x 34" oil on canvas
This image obviously denotes feelings of power and prestige, which plays towards the target audience, fans of comic books. The figure in this painting is on a field of white, making him the only focus, centered in the image, staring directly at the viewer, challenging. The only thing that I think that could strengthen this image is by changing the color of the background to compliment the figure. Having an elongated frame with the figure stretching upwards, centrally placed, with the strong diagonal of the trident work very well in composition with a fully contained figure. The colors used touch one another and are balanced well, coupled with different light sources help to make the image more dynamic and less static, which can be a problem for a central figure with little movement.
