  1. among the white background the figure looks almost reborn with the blue blanket acting as cradle of color.

  2. I think that the proportions and cool colors of the body are captured very well as well the shadows are believable. The background could benefit from a wash or painted scene so the figure can speak with the background more.

  3. The use of color and proportion is very well done. The image almost seems as if it's a sketch and that's very hard to achieve. My suggestion is to maybe draw the line out in the ground all the way across the page with your brown lightly and then do a light wash of blue in the upper half to just give the background a little color across the page to make your model pop more.

  4. I think the next step I would take on this painting would be to ground the figure. While the horizon line helps with this I think that placing some shadows below the figure/chair would really help the depth and story of this image.
I think the strongest point of the image is the use of color. It is a very unified palette and very pleasing to look at.
I think that the proportions and some of the angles are a little off, which detracts from the "realness" of the figure, and if they were corrected it would help draw the viewer in and create more depth in the painting.

  5. Your style is very delicate in both paint application and color choice. This minimalist style is very elegant. My suggestion to move forward with this painting would be to add a light color to render the ground and a slightly lighter color to render the wall.

  6. I like the inclusion of the slight horizon line, it helps to ground the seat and figure. However I wish there were shadows under the chair and where his foot in on the ground, because there are no shadows it kind of makes him feel like he's floating even with the horizon line. I really like the placement of shadows and highlights on the figure, they have a nice opaque quality. You have some very nice blues and oranges.

  7. I believe we talked about it in class, but the color and value on the body, I felt, was a pretty accurate value of hue. Some of the proportions are a little off, not much, in the calves, but I feel the proportions are further put off by unequal treatment. Since the feet weren't treated with the same care, as say the knee, the feel more flat. Coupled with the kind of dark body halo across the figure, with not much other registration across the background, doesn't help with the depth. The light horizon line works really well to help define dimensions.

  8. very tight control of the watercolor but could have been looser and would have given it more strength. the skin tone looks a little dull and could have more contrast with the background if I were to work on it I would be less careful with color and allow the water to dictate more and dab in warm and cool tones.

  9. I think you got the angle of his torso perfectly, since he was slightly slouched in the drawing horse. I might blend the edge of the shadow on his left arm, where the elbow folds. maybe just the edge, to get rid of the sharp edge. I know you ran out of time, and were planning to add more tonal values to the figure, but with the couple of days you had I think you got really far.

  10. I don't think there is anything else that I would do to this painting. You have adopted a very cohesive, pervasive style that doesn't waver and gives the painting a sense of wholeness. This painting really works as it is. I love the red horizon line behind the figure, you couldn't have picked a more perfect color.

  11. i think the color choice in this image is very interesting because theres so little paint on the canvas so the colors you do have pop out very well. the proportions of the figure are lacking a little bit of a curvilinear quality that would make the figure more three dimensional. i would also like to see a bit more on the canvas in terms of more extreme colors for warms and cools

  12. I really like this piece as it is more illustrative to me. I think it was just your choice of medium, but there's something about it that is really charming. I think that the dark line on his right pectoral is a little bit too strong as a dark line, but otherwise I really like the painting as a whole. I really love the hue of blue you used for the blanket.
