- Broken Color: painting that consists of short individual strokes of color.
- Palette Knife: painting done with different palette knives instead of brushes.
- Under Painting: painting first done as a "rough draft" using simple colors or mediums. Quite often artists use acrylic to under paint, as it dries quickly, and will paint over that with oils.
- Canvas: made of lined, cotton or polyester. The cloth is stretched over a wooden frame; because it is flexible it needs to be stiffened.
- Paper: this is also flexible and is acid-free.
- Wood: All different kinds may be used.
TOOLS
- Palette knives: used to mix paint; is available in different shapes and sizes and may also be used in lieu of a brush.
- Brushes: available in different shapes, sizes, and hairs; all move paint different and create various strokes.
- palette: useful for mixing paints. Some palettes are even great for paint storage.
