  1. Nice job on the master study, I'm sure it's hard constructing a deconstructed image! I remember you said the artist doesn't like to beautify images. I still think yours is too beautiful - not in a bad way. I enjoy your study, but becuase it's so pretty I have a hard time believing it came from the same studio. I love the colors you used but i think the image could be further deconstructed.

  2. It came across my mind that the copy was the mother and the study was the daughter for some reason. It looks like the composition of the study is made by someone with the same mind as the artist but not the artist herself. I think the palette is nice to look at and the colors in the study are a bit more passionate for me.

  3. I do believe these come from the same artist but there is something about the study that isn't fully there yet. The study is too clean and pretty, it is really well done, but it needs to be more deconstructed and "messy" like the original artist. You can see her harsh brush work and it yours it doesn't really come across as that. I do love what you've done to your image, especially those pale blue eyes and the blocks of colors around the eyes and on the nose. Overall I think both are very successful.

  4. I think that both paintings are beautiful. The one thing that would really bring them together would be if you made your darker tones more bold. When you look at the study up close you can see the similar brush strokes of the master copy, but they get lost with light tones of the flesh and in the eye as well. I think by just making the blue in the eye darker and the mid tones and opaque purplish tones on the face bolder, your study would blend perfectly.

  5. These pieces definitely read as from the same studio and I could read that feom the style of rough brush strokes. This could be exaggerated more in your copy, but still I believe these are some of your strongest pieces and I love the artist you chose. I like the colors in both and think they work well. The use of your tempera is really good and looks well handled!

  6. I think that your copy was excellent. Well done capturing the loose deconstruction. However I think that you lost the deconstruction aspect in your study which really makes me question whether these are from the same studio. I can see a pretty clear connection between the two works, but I don't really see enough to convinve me based on your choices in rendering/leaving the figure more smooth/intact.

  7. these are so good! both the study and copy are excellent compositions. the loose deconstructive lines are very well done. these paintings show me the importance of letting the brush do more work than the arm.

  8. Great job Amy! These are so cool! I wonder if this is a style you would like to have? I love that you chose to paint yourself in the second painting. I think your proportions are fantastic and have definitely improved. I can tell you had fun with this project.

  9. Amy. I am at a loss for words. Your master copy looks exactly like the original. The deconstructive quality of these pieces are so intriguing to look at. There is a clear connection between the two pieces, but don't seem to be made by the same artist. I am so impressed by your improvement!
