  1. when first observing these pieces i thought they were absolutely beautiful composition wise. The gold leafs definitely add the most to this piece. I feel that the study does look like it came from his studio. the only thing that is problematic for me is the choice of figure. this is just because the copy is more archaic while the study has a more modern figure.

  2. These are some of my favorite pieces from this assignment, they turned out so good and I love what you did for your study, it's very creative. You recreated the style of the original very well, even if you didn't know who the study was of, it connects with the copy and you could even pull of creating an idol. I feel like the drapery in the study could have been a bit more worked, it feels odd the way it is coming down but then seems to stop on his sleeve (not the one that is raised).

  3. I'm probably the only one...but I didn't know who was in you master study. -_- Even though I didn't know who was depicted. the painting was still very effective. I love the gold leaf in both of the paintings! The palette in the copy is beautiful, and you did a great job of replicating that in your study. The paintings look like they were created in the same studio.

  4. super rad. I think your copy looked better than the original but I think the figure you chose for the second could have translated better had you done a religious figure. overall really impressive and good use of material.

  5. Love the gold leaf! I was looking at Duccio's Maestà with Twenty Angels and Nineteen Saints, and I think you captured the way he paints noses and almond eyes perfectly in your study painting. Your painting reminds me of his Apostle Matthias painting. beautiful paintings, and I especially love the way you painted the sheer fabric that's wrapped around baby Jesus. It's amazing.

  6. I love the use of the gold leafing and had a lot of fun when you demonstrated how to use it and apply that material. I see these being from the same artist but I'm not so sure about a series. I think if you used Jesus or Jacob or someone rather in your study, it'd come across a bit better. Your copy is so clean and concise it's really nice. I feel in the right arm of your study maybe you could have just added more draping in the fabric. This is definitely one of my favorite master copies/studies.

  7. These paintings make me happy! I love Dumbledore so much! Genius idea to incorporate this style of painting with a contemporary figure. Your colors are so beautiful and rich. Your gold leafing technique seems to be very successful.

  8. This is a fantastic set of paintings. I think you did an amazing job getting into the style of Duccio. I am not settled on whether painting Dumbledore was a good or bad idea in terms of a series aspect of these two paintings, however I really enjoy the fact that you did paint him. I think your iconography in your study is a great inclusion because it really ties it into the style of religious icon paintings.

  10. Your ability to reproduce work is amazing and I am in love with the fact that you used leafing in your piece! I think the image of Dumbledore is perfect, and really represents icons from our generation (which is a little sad when comparing icons of generations), but awesome none the less. Great job!
