  1. The geometric aspect of his work is very refreshing for me to look at. I feel that the bottom lip would become more strong if it was defined by a black line....this is something i know you were aware of...just wanted to bring it up. also the hair is somewhat distracting for me in the study it seems that it needs to be more offset and a bit more abstract. Other than that the palette works for me and i feel that it came out of his studio at an early time in his career.

  2. I wish I could see more from this artist to compare but there seems to be nothing on him. But based off of this piece I think your study captured the style and aesthetics of the original. I almost wish you had just stuck to a head shot like the copy for your study, the hands feel odd and distracting, maybe because they seem too small and oddly aligned with her neck. But I know you wanted to do a particular image of her. The placement of the lines in the study aren't quite there, they feel to evenly placed but I think they still work really well. Overall I think work together and come from the same artist. I also like the way you used the tempera.

  3. You chose an interesting painting to copy! I feel like there could be more shapes the hair of your study. I agree with Alise, the hands seems a little out of place. Overall, I love the colors, Your painting is so bright. The study looks like its more of an influenced piece (which I guess it is) than a study, but I think its great anyway.

  4. I think that the colors you chose are believable as pair with the master copy. I think that if you added more shapes to the eyes and hair like you did with the nose they it would fit perfectly with the master copy. I love the image you chose for your study, I think it matches the rock star theme of the master copy.

  5. I really love the style of this artist you have chosen. I find it to be such a great concept in using shapes to create an overall image. I would kind of like to see more shapes in your study just as a suggestion as in the hands, hair, and maybe a little in the face. I feel with pairing these pieces up together they can create a nice series. I honestly would love to see several of these in a gallery. It reminds me of some of Picasso's work with his cubism.

  6. Great style captured in these two and I can get a sense they are from the same studio and I appreciate the craftsmanship in the two. I like the cubism and I think it was translated well into your second painting. The red lips become a little distracting and I think that's really minor. Some linear outlines would really tie it all together!

  7. the john lennon study looks great as does the portrait of nancy spungen. i suggest on the master study to add more extreme darks to make the image more three dimensional but the palette other than that was really good and both of these look like they could have come from the same studio

  8. I enjoy how unique this style is and how it so different from the style of painting you normally do. I think that you've managed to capture the same vibrancy of the artist you studied. Things you could improve upon are the proportions of the hands in the master study and incorporating more shadows in the face.

  9. I like the choice of the original painting, and I think you did a great job in your copy. I think that your painting is much flatter though as your shapes rarely overlap, and the value seems to be very uniform all the way across. I think that the hair bothers me the most. Breaking up those vertical lines of color would have really helped the composition for me. You did make a lot of good choices in your study. The subject matter is fitting and the basics of the style are there, just a few compositional tweaks would make it perfect!
